Cardiovascular and Cholesterol Testing
One in Five Americans has some form of heart disease. Over 1 million people this year will experience a heart attack, and about 30% of them will die because of it. We place great emphasis on cardiovascular health and prevention. Our various cardiovascular panels help assess your risk for heart attack, stroke or circulation problems caused by either genetic or dietary factors. By monitoring your blood for these risk factors, you can identify a potential problem years before it occurs. By modifying your lifestyle and diet accordingly you can increase your life expectancy.
The Comprehensive Cardiovascular Test includes the standard measurements of lipid metabolism (Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides) as well as other markers for heart attack or stroke (Homocysteine, C - Reactive Protein).
The Comprehensive Cardiovascular Test with the NMR LipoProfile Test goes one step beyond the standard lipid profile by also including analysis of microscopic particles using magnetic resonance technology. These particles (LDL-P, LDL-C) are much more specific for heart disease, and can demonstrate risk even when the standard lipid results are normal.
The Metabolic Syndrome (“Syndrome X”)Testing examines the risk of developing both diabetes and cardiovascular disease. By evaluating glucose levels, glycohemoglobin levels (Hba1c), the NMR LipoProfile Test, and various electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium) you can determine if modifying your diet will reduce your risk.
The VAP Cholesterol Test, in addition to looking at standard lipid profile measurements (Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Lipoprotein-a, Triglycerides) also examines LDL particle size, sub-fractions of VLDL (VLDL1+2, VLDL3), and subfractions of HDL (HDL2-C, HDL3-C). These subparticles further assess your risk for heart attack and stroke.
