Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)
Over 45 million Americans currently have been exposed to at least one STD, with genital herpes being the most popular one. Sexually transmitted diseases do not always show symptoms. Some are silent, and can only be detected through blood or urine tests. Failure to test for the most common diseases can pit you or your partner at risk for infection. Routine testing for the most common sexually transmitted diseases will help prevent the spread of infection in the community.
Our confidential STD tests include comprehensive panels that test for multiple bacterial and viral infectious agents. While any of the individual blood or urine tests can be run separately, many of our clients prefer the convenience of testing for multiple infections at one time.
The Comprehensive STD Panel includes blood tests for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Hepatitis B. (Note that Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can also be tested with a urine test).
The Comprehensive STD Panel with HIV DNA by PCR (HIV viral load) adds a direct and accurate measurement of the concentration of HIV virus concentration in the blood (if present), as distinguished from the standard HIV Antibody Test, which only confirms whether or not the body has been infected by the HIV virus).
The H Transit Panel includes testing for Herpes Types I and II, Hepatitis B (surface antigen, core antibody and surface antibody), the Hepatitis C Antibody Test, and the standard HIV Antibody Test (with confirmation).
It is possible to test HIV in greater detail. Our HIV Type I and HIV Type II Screening Test includes testing for the less common HIV Type II, which is missed in standard HIV antibody tests.
Another common STD which is on the rise is Syphilis, which can be detected indirectly through the RPR test.
Finally, our Human T-Cell Lymphotrophic Virus Test (HTLV-I/HTLV-II) is an antibody test that screens for a sexually transmitted disease that can cause T-cell leukemia or lymphoma.
