Chlamydia Antibodies, IgG

Tests For

  • Chlamydia Blood Test

Description

A Chlamydia blood test checks for antibodies to the sexually transmitted disease, chlamydia. Many people can be carriers of Chlamydia and not know that they are infected. Note that this test is simply a blood test. A penile or vaginal swab is not needed for this test, so it is comfortable, dignified, and convenient.

The best screening test for Chlamydia, however, is not this antibody test or the swab test, but rather the LabSafe Chlamydia and Gonorrhoeae urine test, listed in our test menu, and found at the following page:

http://www.lab-safe.com/lab-tests/test/120/

Unlike the urine test, the Chlamydia blood test does not check for the presence of Gonorrhoeae. Furthermore, it may take a few weeks for antibodies (detected by this blood test) to a Chlamydia infection to develop. The urine test, however, can detect the presence of these bacteria earlier, in your urine, at the time of testing, and indicate if you are currently infected.

It is very important to note that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) does not recommend this test for Chlamydia screening. However, the CDC does recommend the urine test, found on the LabSafe website at http://www.lab-safe.com/lab-tests/test/120/. Reference: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines 2002, MMWR 2002, 51 (No. RR-6).

Please note that although the CDC refers people to LabSafe for private STD testing, LabSafe does not work for the CDC, any government agency, any insurance company, or any other company. LabSafe operates independently so that we can serve YOU. Privacy is the core of LabSafe's success.
