Description

Rabbit Fever (or Deerfly Fever), this disease is transmitted by rodents, fleas, and ticks. Antibodies develop 2-3 weeks after infection and peak in 4-5 weeks. Antibodies may remain elevated for years after infection. Test for Rabbit Fever is done to evaluate exposure to the disease. It is noted that this disease is high on the list of potential bioterrorism agents.

Typically, people become infected through the bite of infected insects (most commonly, ticks and deerflies), by handling infected sick or dead animals, by eating or drinking contaminated food or water, or by inhaling airborne bacteria.
