German Measles, Rubella Antibodies IgG

Tests For

  • Rubella Immunity
  • Immunity to German Measles

Description

German Measles test identifies antibodies to the rubella virus in a sample of blood. Rubella virus is the cause of German measles, which usually shows up as a rash. However, when acquired by a fetus during pregnancy, rubella virus can cause the congenital rubella syndrome, and lead to fetal death, malformation, deafness, and mental retardation. For this reason the federal government and many states support programs to immunize women against rubella before they have children. There has been a resurgence of congenital rubella in the early 1990s and more widespread testing for rubella is recommended. Take German Measles test at LabSafe.

An important reason to test for Rubella antibodies is before deciding to have a baby. If a woman has antibodies against rubella virus, even of low titer, then she can worry much less about infection during an upcoming pregnancy. If she is not immune, and is not pregnant, she can receive rubella vaccine before she gets pregnant, in order to protect her baby.
