Alpha-Fetoprotein Test is generally used to check the Alpha-Fetoprotein, Liver Cancer and Testicular Cancer. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a substance naturally produced by the liver of a fetus. Normally, low levels of AFP can be found in the blood of a pregnant woman. No AFP (or only a very low level) is usually found in the blood of healthy men or healthy, nonpregnant women. The level of alpha-fetoprotein can be used to indicate certain conditions or diseases.

In men and nonpregnant women, alpha-fetoprotein in the blood can indicate the presence of certain types of cancer (especially cancer of the testicles or liver).
